Our Club History
The Lions Club of Onkaparinga was founded on the 19th June 1967 and has been serving the community continually since then.
In the early years, fundraising efforts included selling hay, cattle agistment and apple picking. The Club’s first activity was assisting a family who had lost everything in a house fire at Birdwood. Just over 50 years later, our members assisted many across our community who were in the same position following the 2019 bush fires. Service activities were numerous over the intervening years and truly reflected the motto ‘where there is a need there is a Lion’.
Today, our members are committed to continuing the ethos established by our Charter members and while members no longer agist cattle or sell hay, our fundraising efforts through the Lions Shed at Woodside enable the assistance of many in our community.

Lions Clubs are part of community life, in metropolitan cities and in country regions. Clubs are easily identified by our distinctive Logo, the trademark of our International Association, and the ‘We Serve’ motto.
Lions Clubs International membership currently stands at over 1.4 million in around 45,500 clubs in approximately 202 countries. During the year, individual Lions Clubs perform over 1,500 services each day in their local areas, bringing the association to a level of service never before known.
We are part of the greatest humanitarian service force that has ever existed.
